Update for March 30, 2020

Normal eLearning instruction resumes this week: As a reminder eLearning assignments resumed this week. I do hope the waive week allowed our teachers to re-tool and possibly some extra student work to be completed. I want to continue to express this is a difficult situation. Some families are able to manage quite nicely, while others are and will have more of a challenge.

Funding on the way: In my conference call today, we learned that the state of South Carolina will be receiving $206 million in emergency funding for K-12 education. The money is going to be divided out amongst SC school districts based on Title I formulas. We can use the funding for a variety of resources ranging from cleaning supplies to technology expenses.

Shelter in place: If the Governor does issue a “Shelter in Place” order, there is a continued provision for essential services such as government and state services. Schools are considered essential services. We will close all facilities with the exception of a select few. We will maintain food service operations and technology support services. The remaining services will be on a case by case basis.

Families First Coronavirus Response Act Notice: This message is for KCSD Employees. Be on the lookout for an email from Mary Anne Byrd. It will contain a poster with the newly released FFCRA. Academic Plan: A comprehensive academic plan is going to be released tomorrow by the state. One thing that we know and can plan for now is that ALL senior coursework must be completed by May 15th.
