KCSD News: North Central High School dedication and open house to be January 3
Tuesday, December 13, 2022
The dedication and open house for the newly built North Central High School will be Tuesday, January 3, at 5 p.m.
This new facility will open on the school’s original campus with an enrollment of 577 students and 66 staff. Serving the communities of Bethune, Cassatt, Kershaw, Liberty Hill, Mt. Pisgah, and Westville, the school now has one of the largest attendance zones in South Carolina -- 300 square miles.
On January 12, 2020, tragedy struck when an EF-2 tornado touched down on the school’s campus. The 130 mph winds destroyed classrooms, the school library, athletic fields, and school buses parked there overnight. The storm left the campus unusable. The school was temporarily relocated to the empty facility that formerly housed the district’s career and technology center while the high school was rebuilt.
North Central High School is now 116,942 square feet and at its fullest capacity will house 750 students. The school has 22 classrooms with four science labs and classrooms for agriculture, art, band, and drama, plus a JROTC suite, a media center, a multi-purpose room, an auxiliary gym, an auditorium, and an administrative wing.
The new facility was designed by Pike + McFarland + Hall and built by Hood Construction.
The school's address is 3000 Lockhart Road, Kershaw.
