Doby's Mill Elementary (DME) Assistant Principal Alana Powers has been selected to serve as the school's principal starting with the 2021-22 school year.
"Mrs. Powers has done a great job as the assistant principal at Doby's Mill," said Kershaw County School District Superintendent Shane Robbins. "She has helped to create a school environment that provides high-quality learning experiences and a culture of success."
Powers has served as DME's assistant principal since 2017. Prior to that, she was a teacher at Camden Elementary for 12 years and also taught at Jackson and Pine Tree Hill Elementary during her 18-year teaching career.
In 2013, the district selected Powers as Camden Elementary School’s teacher of the year and as the first alternate for district teacher of the year.
"I am so honored to be able to lead and serve a school and a community that I already love so much," Powers said. "I look forward to what is to come and to continuing to build upon all the wonderful things that are already happening at DME!"
A graduate of Camden High, Powers received a Bachelor of Science degree from Winthrop University and Masters of Education degrees from Lesley University and Southern Wesleyan University. She is currently pursuing a doctorate from Liberty University.
