Burns named 2021 KCSD Principal of the Year

2021 Principal of the Year Weyland Burns Adult Education Director Weyland Burns was named Kershaw County School District (KCSD) 2021 Principal of the Year today. Burns was selected after a vote of school and district administrators and has served in his position since 2011.

Burns has over 35 years of experience in the educational field. He previously served as the Career Center Director and Adult Education Director for the Palmetto Unified School District. He has a master’s degree plus 30 hours in education from the University of South Carolina and a Bachelor of Arts from Wofford College.

Under Burns' leadership, the Kershaw County Adult Education Program received the SC Department of Education's “Stepped Up to the Plate Award” for developing innovative solutions to address the challenges that have arisen from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Burns will be formally recognized April 22 at the school district's Teacher of the Year Gala.
