Baker named new Stover Middle principal

Dr. Chantelle Baker AC Moore Elementary School Principal Chantelle Baker has been named as the new principal for Leslie M. Stover Middle School to replace Mike Garity who retired. Baker has been a principal since 2005, having also served in that role at Chester Park Elementary School of the Arts.

“Dr. Baker ties her love of the arts into her building, and it has proven successful,” said Kershaw County School District Superintendent Shane Robbins. “I am confident she will provide the leadership and energy to move Stover Middle School in a positive direction.”

Baker started her educational career as a teacher at Harbison West Elementary School and has also served as an assistant principal at Sumter High School.

Under leadership, AC Moore Elementary received national accreditation through the National Association for the Education of Young Children and was an application finalist for Palmetto’s Finest. The school also received the Champions of Literacy Award and was awarded over $100,000 in Arts in Basic Curriculum grants and Distinguished Arts Program grants.

Baker received a bachelor of arts degree in music and flute performance, a master of arts degree in teaching, a master of educational administration degree, an educational specialist degree in educational administration and a doctorate degree in educational administration all from the University of South Carolina.

She is a board member of the South Carolina Arts Alliance and plays the flute in the University of South Carolina’s Palmetto Concert Band.
