November 11, 2019

Palmetto Silver Schools 2019 The Kershaw County School Board recently recognized three schools that received Palmetto Silver Awards from the South Carolina Department of Education. The principals of the schools are pictured left to right with the flags that will hang in their schools: Britt Gardner, Mt. Pisgah Elementary (2017-18 and 2018-19); Melissa Royalty, Pine Tree Hill Elementary (2018-19) and Gene Cameron, Lugoff-Elgin Middle (2018-19).

The Palmetto Gold and Silver awards program was established by the Education Accountability Act of 1998 “to recognize and reward schools for academic achievement and for closing the achievement gap.”

For elementary and middle schools, the criteria focus on two report card indicators: Academic Achievement and Student Progress. These awards honor schools that are doing an outstanding job ensuring that their students meet the Profile of the South Carolina Graduate.
