KCSD Read In tomorrow (Oct. 4) celebrates reading

October 3, 2019

2017 Read-In Gathering It is often said that reading can take you anywhere. On Friday, Oct. 4, local kids will be "blasting off to books" with Professor Whizzpop as part of the fifth annual Kershaw County School District (KCSD) Read In.

Over 500 KCSD students who met their schools' reading goals will participate in the event at the City Arena in Camden. In addition to the space-themed magic and reading activities with Professor Whizzpop, the day will include older students reading to younger ones. There also will be a time for independent reading. High school readers include Camden High School's teacher cadets, physics class and baseball team; Lugoff-Elgin High School's Literacy Express and North Central High School's volleyball team. Kona Ice will also be available.

“This has become a great event to bring our students together to highlight reading,” said Camden High School Librarian Laura Horton who is coordinating the event. “We know that reading is the key to success for learning, but it's also fun. Our districtwide Read In celebrates that."

Students will arrive at 10 a.m. and the program will end around 1 p.m.
