KCSD schools to start Delayed Start Wednesdays on April 10

All Kershaw County School District (KCSD) schools will have delayed starts on Wednesdays beginning April 10 to provide teachers time for joint planning and training.

“I’ve used this schedule in other school districts successfully as way to provide more time in Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) for teachers to work together collaboratively,” said KCSD Superintendent Shane Robbins. “The nice aspect is that students can come either at the regular time or wait until the delayed start time so it will not disrupt family schedules.”

Robbins said that breakfast will be served at the regular time, and school buses will run on a normal schedule. Schools will operate the car rider line at both the regular and delayed start times. Students who arrive at school at the normal time will have constructive activities supervised by KCSD staff. Students who come at the delayed start time will have limited breakfast options.

“As we work to create modern learning environments, teachers need time for training and planning,” Robbins explained. “Teachers will be evaluating student achievement data and also be learning about best practices for using technology during this professional development time.”
