Regular school schedule for April 8
April 8, the first day back to school after KCSD’s Spring Break, falls on the same day of the solar eclipse crossing North America. Kershaw County School District plans to operate on a regular schedule that day.
Unlike the total solar eclipse that we experienced in 2017 in Kershaw County, during the peak time of the upcoming April 8 partial solar eclipse the sun will be around 76% covered in our area. The partial eclipse will be visible from 1:53 p.m. to 4:25 p.m., peaking in Kershaw County around 3:11 p.m.
Any parent that would like their child to be home during the partial eclipse can check their child out of school after 12 p.m. on April 8 following regular school checkout guidelines. As long as the parent/guardian submits a note explaining why they are checking their student out early, the time missed due to the eclipse will be marked as excused.
No classes will observe the eclipse and no eclipse glasses will be distributed by our schools.
We encourage parents to please take time over Spring Break, to remind students about the importance of not looking directly at the sun anytime.
By working together, parents and the school district can ensure a safe and educational experience for students during the upcoming solar eclipse.
