Update on Delayed Start Wednesdays

Update on Delayed Start Wednesdays
Webmaster Putnam

As you know, Kershaw County School District paused our Delayed Start Wednesday (DSW) schedule starting in late December.

District and school-level administrators have taken time over the past few months to evaluate the Delayed Start Wednesday schedule and its impact on our staff and students.

Originally, this time was designed for professional development for staff at the schools, but as you know our school bus transportation and car rider lines continued to run on a normal school schedule to accommodate our families.

On Delayed Start Wednesdays, a vast majority of our students were arriving at school at the regular school time, requiring supervision in the bus line, car line and inside the school. This did not allow for all teachers and staff to participate in the scheduled school meetings and professional development offerings.

Also, for students that were choosing to take advantage of the delayed schedule, our schools reported increased tardiness on Wednesdays.

Overall, we have determined that our students and staff are better served by operating on a regular school day schedule on Wednesdays.

There will be no Delayed Start Wednesdays for the remainder of the 2023-2024 school year.

As a reminder, regular schedule school start times are:

⏰ 7:30 AM - Elementary Schools

⏰ 7:45 AM - Middle Schools

⏰ 8:00 AM - High Schools
