During the January 13, 2026, school board meeting, the Kershaw County School Board approved the hire of Dr. Lilkenya Jenkins as the district’s Director of Federal Programs.

Dr. Jenkins joins KCSD with 25 years of experience as an educator in South Carolina. She began her career in 2001 teaching middle and high school English Language Arts for six years before being named a high school Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction.

In 2008, she joined Darlington County School District as the Middle School Curriculum Facilitator. From 2010-2019, she served as principal in Darlington County School District at Spaulding Elementary and Thornwell School for the Arts. Since 2019, Dr. Jenkins has served as Darlington County School District’s Director of Federal and State Programs where she oversees the district’s federal and state programs to include Title I, Title II, Title III, Title IV, ATSI, CSI and McKinney-Vento.

I look forward to working collaboratively with school leaders, educators, and families in using federal programs to further support student achievement and create meaningful opportunities for students to thrive,” says Jenkins.

A lifelong learner, she earned her Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from South Carolina State University in 2014 and a Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies from Cambridge College in 2007. She completed her Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction in 2005 from Lesley University, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Coker University in 2001. Dr. Jenkins is a graduate of the SC Department of Education Institute for District Administrators.

She is a member of the South Carolina Association of School Administrators and the South Carolina Association of Title I Administrators. Dr. Jenkins serves on the Darlington County First Steps Board of Directors. 

Dr. Jenkins and her husband Alvin reside in Camden. They have two children, a daughter, Lilkrya and son, Alvin. Her son and two grandchildren attend Camden schools.
