Boulware named Lugoff-Elgin High head football coach and student activities director
During the February 20, 2024 school board meeting, the Kershaw County School Board approved the hire of Leon Boulware as Lugoff-Elgin High School head football coach and student activities director. Boulware has more than 15 years of high school football coaching experience.
”One of the most important traits of a coach is that he invests in his athletes as students and people first. Coach Boulware has built a career capitalizing on that type of investment. His proven record of success speaks volumes about who he is as a coach and what we believe he will bring to our entire athletic program. We feel that he will most certainly add to the Lugoff-Elgin High School 'Legacy of Excellence,'” says Principal Corey Wright.
Boulware currently serves as the Head Football Coach at Lewisville High School in Chester County School District, where he has served since 2021. In the past two seasons, Lewisville High has earned a 21-4 record and made it to the third round of the South Carolina High School League playoffs each season. Coach Boulware was named a two-time Region Coach of the Year and SCFCA 1A Upper state Coach of the Year.
Prior to Coach Boulware’s move to Lewisville High he served at Northwestern High School, Indian Land High School, Nation Ford High School and Lancaster High School. During his tenures at those stops, Boulware served various roles including Varsity Football Offensive Coordinator, Special Teams Coordinator, Run Game Coordinator, Head Wrestling Coach and Track Coach.
During his coaching career, Boulware has coached players who have earned All-State, All-Region and All-Star Game selections along with multiple State Champions. Boulware also coached two State Championship teams as a Head Wrestling coach, and was state and nationally recognized as coach of the year.
“I am excited about the opportunity to lead the Lugoff-Elgin High School football program and serve as the student activities director. Thank you to the hiring committee, Mr. Wright and Dr. Goodwin for believing in me and my vision. I feel Lugoff-Elgin High is a great place and I look forward to getting to work,” says Boulware.
Boulware holds a Bachelor of Science degree in exercise science from Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas. He is a member of the South Carolina Athletic Coaches Association and the American Football Coaches Association.
Coach Boulware is married to Malisa Boulware and together they have five children.
