Welcome to third grade!
My name is Kristel Grubbs, and I’m so excited to be teaching third grade at Wateree Elementary School. This will be my 17th year of teaching Elementary Education. I am a native of North Carolina, growing up in a little town called Landis near Kannapolis, home of Dale Earnhardt. I earned my Bachelor of Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (Go Niner’s!!!) I began my career in the Banking Industry and moved quickly up to Loan Originator in my 7 years of banking. After reaching this goal, I just did not feel accomplished so I pursued to earn my Elementary Education degree again from UNCC. Through difficult times I ended up graduating Magma Cum Laude. I began my teaching career in Rowan County Schools at a Title 1 school in Salisbury, NC (my birthplace) teaching Kindergarten for 3 years, then jumped to 5th grade math teaching my daughter at her elementary school. Next, I moved to Stanly County Schools to teach 6th grade math, science, and health at a K-8th grade school for two years where I taught my daughter again in 6th grade. During a budget cut year in NC, the county lost teachers so other principals and teachers were shuffled around to meet the needs of the schools, and so, I was moved to a city middle school where I again taught 6th grade science, math and social studies. I loved teaching at the middle school, however, at this point in my life I had moved to Union County and was driving 2 hours a day which became monotonous, and I had lost valuable time with my daughter. I decided to teach in Union County Schools where I lived, and worked there for 3 years teaching 5th grade. I really missed my coworkers and the community of Stanly County so I decided to move back after receiving an email from one of my principals in Stanly County. I taught there for 2 more years teaching 4th grade math and science. Lastly, I married my husband, Jeff Grubbs, a pastor in Camden, and decided I would continue my teaching career here at Wateree Elementary teaching 3rd grade.
When I am not teaching, I am busy being a pastor’s wife, and lead the lady’s ministries group at our church. I am the Mom of a beautiful 23-year-old daughter, Miranda, who just graduated this summer from Central Community Piedmont College with an Associate’s Degree in Dental Hygiene, and I am blessed with an adorable granddaughter, Remi, who is the light of my world. I also have a very handsome step-son, Luke, who is attending USC. Finally, my world would not be complete without my 4 loving dogs: Spur, Tanner, Abby and Spunk.
When I do have free time, I love to read the Bible, motivational books, and educational books. I love to watch movies and go out to eat with my family and friends. My vacation go to places are the beach and the mountains because I like the best of both worlds. I am a blessed lady who has overcome many obstacles, but all of them have taught me much about life, and the importance of education and family.
I hope to make your child’s 3rd grade year pleasant and a year of growth. Please do not hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any questions or concerns. I am excited to meet your child and work alongside with you as a team.
