Students who successfully complete the Fire Fighter 1 course and qualify on the national-level firefighter certification test will be prepared to enter any fire service company in South Carolina straight out of high school.

Prerequisite: Be 16 years old by the start date of the course. This is a spring semester course.
This course is based on the learning objectives listed in IFSTA’s Essentials of Fire Fighting, 7th Edition (2018), Sitllwater, OK: Fire Protection Publications, Oklahoma State University. These objectives have been further modified by the South Carolina Fire Academy to meet the needs of the South Carolina fire service. Course completion alone does not meet the criteria for achieving national certification for Fire Fighter 1. National-level firefighter certification testing is separate. A sports/medical physical is required prior to taking this class. Students need to be the age of 16 before the class begins to be eligible to test for the certification.

Prerequisite: Accredited Firefighter I Certification and a part of the Fire Explorer program with the Camden or Lugoff Fire Department. This is a spring semester course.
Students who have successfully completed the National Fire Fighter 1 certification have the option of registering for this course with the recommendation of the teacher and corresponding Fire Chief. Students enrolled in this course will complete at least 120 hours at an internship site. Dependable means of transportation to and from the assigned internship sites are required.
