Introduction

This Course and Career Guide is an important tool for students in establishing their high school academic plan.  This document acquaints students with their options and guides them through the course selection process.  Kershaw County students are encouraged to select a rigorous course of study to meet highly selective college admissions criteria and/or industry standards.  Although school counselors are available for academic advising, students and their parents are responsible for making certain that the student’s academic plan meets the requirements of the intended diploma, post-secondary school of choice, or career path.  A rigorous senior year of study is an expectation of many colleges and employers.  Students are encouraged to select challenging courses and to consider advanced placement and dual credit options.  Students should also consider courses that can lead to industry certification and employment.

The Kershaw County School District curriculum provides opportunities for students to become college and career ready.  A comprehensive listing of each course including the grade level at which each course is taught, the course weight, credit, and prerequisites is provided. The courses that students select are the basis for employment of teachers and the development of the master schedule. The Kershaw County School District makes every effort to ensure that the information in this Course and Career Guide is informative and accurate. However, new statutes and regulations may impact, negate, or change the implementation of the programs and/or courses described. This Course and Career Guide should in no way be seen as a contract but as a guideline for students as they move through their high school years.

It is the policy of the Kershaw County School District not to discriminate on the basis of sex, handicap, race, color or national origin in its educational and technology programs, activities or employment, as required by Title IX, Section 504 and Title VI. Inquiries regarding compliance with Title IX, Section 504 or Title XI should be directed to the Kershaw County School District office.
