Mrs. Elena Gaston

Welcome to my page! I am very excited to be back in CHS! Here is a little bit about me:

I was born and raised in Spain. I came to the US at the age of 18 to get my degree in Biology Education and since then, I have fallen in love with South Carolina. I've always wanted to be a techer, but it was not until my high school science classes that I decided I wanted to teach Biology. During my 10 years of experience, I have taught in several districts in the state (Greenville, Fairfield, and Sumter) and a year in Charlotte, NC. I enjoy teaching Biology because it is a way for me to better understand myself and my environment.

Some of my recent professional achievements are the completion of a Masters Degree in Biology through Clemson University (go Tigers!!) in 2015,  being named South Carolina's Biology Teacher of the year by the National Association of Biology Teachers in 2016, and becoming Camden High School's Teacher of the year in 2017.

I am married to a wonderful science nerd like me. My husband Ben is a professor in the Engineering department at Midlands Tech and he is currently working on his PhD in Nuclear engineering. We are expecting our first daughters in September (yes, TWINS!), we have 2 dogs (Samson and Delilah), a cat (Oliver), and we live in a house in the country surrounded by trees. In my spare time, I like to travel, read, sew, binge watch my favorite shows on Netflix, and cooking new recipes.
