Welcome to the SEAGUL room. SEAGUL is our G/T program here in Kershaw County. The name “SEAGUL” (Special Education Activities Gear for Unique Learners) seems to be going away. I will always call it that though just like Pluto will always be a planet… a sea star is still a starfish (not a fish, but an echinoderm)… and Han always fires first. Much like these examples I just shared, we will do the research to see how things work, matter and/or change… and then my students can form their own opinions backed up with the research they have done.
A little more about me... I did some time at Clemson University in veterinary science until I transferred to Coastal Carolina University to pursue a degree in elementary education. I married into this district back in 2002 from Horry County, and then I started teaching 3rd grade at Blaney Elementary. In 2004 I was named the Kershaw County School District Teacher of the Year which gained the attention of someone at the district office to move me into teaching in the SEAGUL program. I have been at Lugoff Elementary since 2012. Among my many duties here, I was almost immediately put in charge of our morning show program called “WLES News.”
My wife teaches Spanish at Lugoff High School. We have two awesome kids… one at the middle school, and one still here with me at LES. When we are not teaching, we are quite active biking, rollerblading and playing tennis.
