Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. Patricia Watson

My name is Patricia “Maria” Watson, and I have been an educator for 33 years. I currently teach
second grade at Midway Elementary School in the Kershaw County School District and hold my
certification in Early Childhood Education.

I am a graduate of Francis Marion University in Florence, SC with a Bachelor of Science
Degree in Early Childhood Education. I also hold a Master’s Degree in Technology in Education
from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts and an Ed. Specialist Degree in
Curriculum and Administration from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

My classroom experience includes teaching K4, First through Seventh Grades, High School
Computer, Journalism, and Life Skills, as well as, Instructional Technology classes at the college
level. I have also served as an Assistant Principal for three years and a Principal for nine and a
half years.

My favorite place to be is in the classroom teaching children how to read. Out of my 33 years in
education, teaching children how to read has been the most rewarding experience that I’ve had.
Just watching the students grow and blossom into successful readers brings me so much joy!

I have been married to my husband, Ritchie, for 33 years as well. We have four sons, a
daughter-in-law, and a new grandson that we just adore. We are a very close-knit family who
enjoys spending time at the beach, relaxing in the pool, going to sporting events, cook-outs, and
family game nights.

My motto to live by is to love like Jesus loves. This motto embodies the total relationship that I
have with my family, my colleagues, and my students. If I love them first, regardless of
appearance, knowledge, or ability, then I will do anything to help them in all aspects of life.
