Hello! My name is Deanna Furniss and I am so excited about starting as the art teacher at Blaney Elementary. 

In class, my main goals are to help students grow as artists and learn about their own artistic voice. We accomplish these goals through having varying degrees of choice in the artwork students create and through using the 8 Studio Habits of Mind. 

I graduated from Winthrop University in 2020 with a bachelor's in Art Education. I have been teaching at a charter school in Irmo, SC for the past two years, but wanted to return to the school district I grew up in. Outside of school, I enjoy hiking, throwing a tennis ball around with my dog, making things out of clay, and going to concerts. 

We are going to have an amazing and creative school year!
