I am honored to lead the LEHS Sports Medicine Program in my 2nd year as the Head Athletic Trainer and Sports Medicine Teacher! I am extremely passionate about providing excellent medical care to student-athletes, and assisting students in exploring the wide range of medical careers in both the classroom and the real world, as you seek to find your passion and make decisions about your future plans!
My former students call me "Coach Nuss" to keep things simple, and I hope you will find that I am very open and approachable. Please feel free to contact me any time I can be of assistance regarding academic or medical needs related to athletics!
It has been a blessing to serve this community as both an Educator and Allied Healthcare Professional, and through our partnership with PRISMA Health and the guidance and support of Team Physician Dr. Frank Noojin, I hope to continue to impact students through both the academic and medical services provided.
I have worked in a variety of settings as an Athletic Trainer during the past 16 years, including:
-NCAA Division 1 & 2 Collegiate Athletics
-CAATE Athletic Training Education Program Faculty
-Clinical Orthopedics (Casting, Bracing, Patient Education)
-Military Healthcare Services (US Army Contractor)
-High School Sports Medicine & Health Science Teacher
-High School Head & Assistant Athletic Trainer positions
I also had the humbling opportunity to provide medical care as a volunteer to the people of Haiti for 2.5 months after the devastating earthquake in 2010.
Serving as a volunteer Emergency Medical Responder and Firefighter with a combined 10 years of service starting while I was in college, has also enhanced my skills as an Athletic Trainer. It has been a true blessing to serve the communities around me during my time with the Due West Rescue Squad, Abbeville County EMS, Due West Fire & Rescue, and Columbia Fire Department.
I currently live in Blythewood, and have a dog named Knox (American Staffordshire Terrier) and a cat named Roby (Russian Blue) and a cat named Vestal. My hobbies include working in my yard & flower beds, exploring nature, and singing in a mixed quartet that travels regionally on weekends.
I hope that a small portion of my experiences and continued desire to learn and grow will be of benefit to the LEHS family, and I am looking forward to meeting each of you!
GO DEMONS!
