The Office of Community Relations

  • SCNSPRA Awards 2022The Community Relations Office assists the Superintendent in developing and implementing a communications plan to meet the informational needs of the district’s various internal and external publics. This office handles district multimedia communication, media relations, websites, student information, online registration, school calendar, school board policy, recognition programs, publications, and special projects of Board and Superintendent. The Community Relations Office also coordinates the work of the Kershaw County Teacher Forum, school librarians and school attendance personnel.

    • How many schools and students do we have?
      Nestled in the heart of the Palmetto State, the Kershaw County School District is home to 20 schools serving more than 10,500 students and over 1,300 employees. The school district is accredited by AdvancED and the South Carolina Department of Education.

    • What qualifications do our employees have?
      More than 70 percent of Kershaw County’s 696 teachers have advanced degrees, and 18% are National Board certified. Our teachers have an average of 18 years’ of experience.
       
    • What are your class sizes?
      The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees has established standards for class sizes, paying special attention to smaller student-teacher ratios at the lower levels. Currently, we average 1:22 in kindergarten, 1:20 in 1st-2nd grades, 1:25 in 3rd-8th grades, and 1:24.5 in 9th-12th grades.
       
    • What type of leadership do you have?
      The Kershaw County Board of School Trustees provides solid leadership in preparing our students to be productive citizens in a global society. Our district has nine instructional goals based on state requirements and the federal No Child Left Behind Act. A strategic plan guides district decision-making.
       
    • Do you have technology in your schools?
      All 20 schools are wireless and connected by a high-speed wide area network. Students and staff have full-time Internet access in classrooms, libraries and computer labs, including distance learning opportunities. All Kershaw County students and teachers have their own computing devices such as laptops or Chromebooks, and all classrooms are equipped with interactive whiteboards.
