Mrs. Melissa Royalty

Melissa Morgan Royalty grew up in a little coal mining town in southern WV. Mrs. Royalty’s mother is a retired educator and her father is a retired coal miner. Her parents taught her that anything worth doing is worth doing well! They instilled in her the love of learning! After high school, Mrs. Royalty attended Concord College in Athens, WV and received her Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education in 1989. Upon college graduation, she accepted a job in Leesville, Louisiana as a 4th grade teacher and that set into motion the path for the rest of her life. While living in LA Mrs. Royalty met her husband of 25 years. Ken Royalty was an Army officer and that afforded the Royalty family the opportunity to move throughout the United States and overseas. They have lived in Louisiana, Georgia, Alaska, Hawaii, Kansas, California, South Korea, London and South Carolina. Over the years Mrs. Royalty received a Master Degree in Guidance and Counseling and another Master Degree in Educational Leadership as well as an Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. Since 1989 Melissa worked for the local schools at the various duty stations Colonel Royalty was assigned to.

Colonel and Mrs. Royalty have four beautiful children. Chris is a Captain in the Army and stationed in Germany, Ben is a Police Officer, Kasey is a Technology Coach at Lonnie B Nelson in Richland Two, and Mackenzie is an art teacher at Rocky Creek Elementary in Lexington District One. The Royaltys are grandparents too! Olivia is eleven, Lilly is six, Malachi is 5 and Isabelle is 19 months old and Jackson is 18 months old. Colonel Royalty retired from the Army in 2012 and the Royalty family decided to make Camden, South Carolina their forever home. They have three dogs that keep them busy. "Winnie the Bullpup" can be found on the PTH campus most school days! She has become the unofficial mascot of PTH!

Mrs. Royalty enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, reading, antiquing and renovating homes. The Royaltys have visited 50 countries, and with God's grace, plan to continue to travel for many years to come! Throughout her experiences, Mrs. Royalty has felt blessed to have her roots firmly planted in the sweet little town of Oceana, West Virginia where she grew up. Melissa's family taught her to love unconditionally, speak up for what she believes in, to do her best, and to always do the right thing! Mrs. Royalty is thankful for her life’s experiences and absolutely loves being a Bullpup!

Mrs. Royalty welcomes all the Bullpup Families to get involved with the school as much as they can! If you ever need Mrs. Royalty's assistance, you can reach her at 803-425-8970, extension 7602 or on her cell phone at 803-312-2156.       I'm very happy to be serving as the Assistant Principal of Pine Tree Hill Elementary this year.  This will be my 18th year in education. From 2012-2018, I served at LEMS as an ELA teacher (2012-2014), interventionist (2014-2017), and Assistant Administrator (2017-2018).   I grew up in Lynn, Massachusetts, which is a city right outside of Boston. In 2000, I received a Master’s in Elementary Education and began teaching in Dover, Delaware.  I moved to South Carolina in 2005. Since then I've taught in two other districts in South Carolina. I also taught for a year in Louisiana before joining Kershaw County School District. In 2011, I earned an Ed. S. in Educational Leadership with principal certification, and I'm currently a doctoral student at Liberty University.

During my senior year of college, I married my husband, Glaysen in beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii.  My husband served in the U.S. Air Force until retiring in 2010. He is a now teacher in the district.  My husband and I have two children. My daughter, Cassidy, is a Junior at University of South Carolina Beaufort, and my son, Glaysen, is a Junior at Crestwood High School.  In my free time, I love to travel, especially to Disney World, and I love spending time with my family.
