Kershaw School Leader Selected for Lifetime Achievement Award
June 30, 2022 - Four school leaders from across the state have been selected by the South Carolina Association of School Administrators (SCASA) as 2022 Lifetime Achievement Award winners. This year, Mr. Timothy Hopkins, Deputy Superintendent for Kershaw County Schools; Dr. David O’Shields, Superintendent of Laurens District 56; Dr. Kappy Steck, former Principal of Forest Lake Elementary in Richland School District Two; and the Honorable Molly Spearman, South Carolina Superintendent of Education, were all selected to receive this award for their contributions to education in South Carolina.

KCSD communications efforts recognized in 2022 state awards program
May 13, 2022 - The Kershaw County School District (KCSD)’s communications efforts have again been recognized at the state level with 19 school and district awards including two “Best in Show” honors in a statewide educational communications contest.

Blaney Elementary first KCSD school to participate in SCDE's leadership program
May 11, 2022 - Blaney Elementary School (BES) has been selected for the SC Department of Education's (SCDE) Collective Leadership Initiative for the 2022-23 school year. BES is the first Kershaw County School District (KCSD) school to participate in the program that focuses on a cohesive vision for teacher leadership roles within South Carolina’s schools.

KC Robotics team wins state competition; headed to World Championship
March 24, 2022 - After winning the state FIRST Tech Challenge robotics competition, KC Robotics Team is now headed to the World Championship in Houston TX. “Our team provides students from across Kershaw County with the opportunity to develop STEM skills and learn engineering principles in a fun way,” said KC Robotics Team Coordinator Paul Sullivan. “It also reinforces the value of hard work, innovation and teamwork.”

WTC culinary arts team wins state Jr. Chefs competition
March 14, 2022 - Woolard Technology Center (WTC) is home to the state champions in the Third Annual South Carolina Department of Education's Farm to School Junior Chef Competition. Taught by WTC Culinary Arts instructor Bryan Catoe, team members Colin Humphries, Saniyya Boykin and Olivia Catoe worked with Kershaw County School District Nutrition and School Food Services Coordinator Misha Lawyer to design a recipe that utilized at least three SC grown foods and could be replicated quickly for school foodservice use.

Cameron named 2022 KCSD Principal of the Year
March 9, 2022 - Lugoff-Elgin Middle School (LEMS) Principal Gene Cameron was named Kershaw County School District (KCSD) 2022 Principal of the Year today. Cameron was selected after a vote of school and district administrators and has served in his position since 2018.

WTC Agriculture Program Wins State Program of the Year Award
March 9, 2022 - The Woolard Technology Center Agriculture Program receives the SCAAE Outstanding Middle/Secondary Agricultural Education Program award for 2022. The Program of the Year award is given to one program in the state of South Carolina each year. After receiving this award WTC Agriculture will advance to the national level for this category.

WTC culinary arts team advances to SC Jr. Chef Finals Cook Off
March 8, 2022 - Woolard Technology Center (WTC) culinary arts students are taking school lunch into their own hands. The team has been selected to participate in the Third Annual South Carolina Department of Education's Junior Chef Competition next week.

Stover Middle named a "School to Watch"
Feb. 14, 2022 - Leslie M. Stover Middle School has earned the national honor of being designated as a "School to Watch." This is the first time that Stover has earned this recognition. Lugoff-Elgin Middle and Camden Middle were re-designated with the national award this year.

Four schools earn Conservation District Mini-Grants
Feb. 8, 2022 - Four schools are the recipients of the Kershaw Conservation District’s Education Mini-Grants program. Each school will receive up to $1,000 to support conservation-related student projects.

Kershaw County Adult Education earns state recognition again
January 7, 2022 - The Kershaw County Adult Education (KCAE) program again earned state recognition for its efforts. The SC Association for Adult and Continuing Education (SCAACE) honored two KCAE teachers and a student at its 2020-21 awards program.

Sep. 23, 2021 - Fourteen Kershaw County School District (KCSD) elementary and middle school students were recognized by the Kershaw County School Board Tuesday night for earning perfect scores on standardized tests given this spring.

November 22, 2019 - Lugoff Elementary School fourth grade teacher Brantley Smith and North Central High School English teacher Nicole Gainey were named the 2019-20 Kershaw County Reading Teachers of the Year by the Kershaw County Reading Council last night. Mt. Pisgah Elementary Principal Britt Gardner earned the award for Kershaw County Reading Administrator of the Year.

KCSD school kitchens recognized in USDA HealthierUS School Challenge Program
November 14, 2019 - All 18 Kershaw County School District (KCSD) school kitchens have been recognized in the USDA HealthierUS School Challenge program. The program certifies schools that have created healthier school environments through the promotion of nutrition education and physical education/activity as well as implemented school wellness policies, smart snacks in school, smarter lunchroom techniques and meal pattern requirements for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs.

LEHS wins CCTC's Academic Challenge for second year in a row
November 13, 2019 - For the second year in a row, Lugoff-Elgin High School (LEHS) won Central Carolina Technical College’s (CCTC) annual Academic Challenge. All three Kershaw County School District (KCSD) high schools competed in the semi-final round with North Central High School finishing third and Camden High School placing fourth.

KC School Board recognizes three Palmetto Silver schools
November 11, 2019 - The Kershaw County School Board recently recognized three schools that received Palmetto Silver Awards from the South Carolina Department of Education. The principals of the schools are pictured left to right with the flags that will hang in their schools: Britt Gardner, Mt. Three KCSD schools receive Palmetto Silver Awards
October 7, 2019 - Three Kershaw County schools received Palmetto Silver Awards today from the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) for their academic performance. Lugoff-Elgin Middle, Mt. Pisgah Elementary and Pine Tree Hill Elementary were honored for the 2018-19 school year while Mt. Pisgah Elementary also received the honor for the 2017-18 school year.

KCSD average SAT score increases 10 points; better than national average
October 25, 2018 - Kershaw County School District (KCSD) 2018 graduating seniors’ average SAT composite score of 1050 is ten points better than last year’s district average while increasing the percentage of students tested from 44.5 to 51.6 percent in information released today by the College Board. KCSD’s average score is one point above the national average while being 14 points below the state average.

May 9, 2018 - For the fourth time in five years, North Central High School (NCHS) has been ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best high schools in the nation. NCHS received a bronze award and was one of only 59 SC high schools recognized.

April 19, 2018 - Blaney Elementary School (BES) fourth grade teacher Jessica Frye was named 2018 Kershaw County School District (KCSD) Teacher of the Year at a gala tonight while North Central Middle School (NCMS) social studies teacher Philip Double was named first alternate. Also honored during the evening’s celebration was Jackson School fifth grade teacher Jonathan Hunt who received the Outstanding First Year Teacher award. Jackson School Principal Matia Goodwin was recognized as the district’s Principal of the Year.

KCSD receives United Way's highest volunteer honor; only third organization to receive Jake Watson Award in 26-year history
The Kershaw County School District (KCSD) received the United Way of Kershaw County's (UWKC) highest volunteer award last night for its exemplary volunteer service to the citizens of Kershaw County. KCSD is only the third organization to win the Jake Watson Award in its 26-year history.

KCSD Teacher of the Year to be named April 19
April 12, 2018 - Kershaw County School District will name its 201 8 District Teacher of the Year at a 7 p.m. gala in the Camden High School auditorium Thursday, April 19. The public is invited to attend. n addition to announcing the District Teacher of the Year, a First Alternate will be named and the district’s 201 8 Principal of the Year Matia Goodwin from Jackson School will be honored. The district will also name its Outstanding First Year Teacher.

March 29, 2018 - Kershaw County School District Superintendent Dr. Frank Morgan was named the Citizen of the Year by VFW Roberts-Dixon Post 5928. The group is celebrating its 72nd year of service in Kershaw County and recognized Morgan for his support of veterans and his service to the community.

October 17, 2017 - Fifty-seven Kershaw County School District (KCSD) students earned scores high enough on spring 2017 AP exams to be named AP Scholars.

KCSD students outperform state results on WorkKeys tests
October 9, 2017 - This spring more than 88 percent of Kershaw County School District’s (KCSD) 11th graders scored at the bronze level or better on the ACT WorkKeys exam, certifying that they have the essential skills needed for success in the workplace.

12 KCSD students honored for perfect scores on spring standardized tests
October 5, 2017 - The Kershaw County School Board recognized 12 students who earned a perfect score on a standardized test this past spring. Five students earned the maximum score on SC PASS, a statewide assessment for students in grades four, six and eight in science and grades five and seven in social studies.

KCSD class of 2017 has highest all-time graduation rate
October 4, 2017 - Last year’s Kershaw County School District (KCSD) graduating class had the highest four-year graduation rate ever. Until this year. The district’s graduation rate rose from 91.3 percent in 2016 to 92.2 percent in 2017, according to KCSD Assessment Director Lavoy Carter. Carter said when calculating the rate over a five-year period, it jumps to 94.4 percent.

Sonic presents North Central Middle with reward check for highest participation in Fill A Bus
September 26, 2017 - North Central Middle School (NCMS) had the greatest participation in the recent campaign to Fill A Bus with school supplies. Sonic of Camden owner Kimberly Lund (left) and Sonic of Lugoff owner Kevin Wilburn presented NCMS Principal Burch Richardson with a $500 check as a percentage of their sales from a day last month while Fred's Pharmacy Manager Jim Bradshaw (right) who also participated in the campaign looks on. NCMS will use the money for its PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support) program.
