I am excited to begin my 20th year as a teacher and my seventh year here at Stover Middle!   I earned a degree in Middle Grades Education from East Carolina University, specializing in Language Arts and Social Studies.  This year, I will again be serving as the Reading Intervention teacher, a subject I have taught for 19 years in some way, shape, or form and for which I have attained highly qualified status.  My goal as a Reading Intervention teacher is to help students to foster a love for reading and writing, to think critically, to write clearly and persuasively, to analyze text, and to understand and utilize the research process.  It is one of my greatest joys to motivate children to learn and enjoy reading and writing.  I will also again be serving as an AVID teacher, teaching both 7th and 8th grade students.  I am beyond excited to continue working toward the goal of empowering students with both the knowledge and skills to take charge of their own educations as they prepare for their future.

During my time off, I enjoy spending time with my husband, Rob, and our two sons, Chandler (25) and Nic (22), and my sweet grandson, Lucas (7 months).  I am an empty-nester, and I love to walk, read, shop, and spend as much time as possible by any body of water...the ocean, river, lake, or pool...water gives me a sense of relaxation like nothing else.  I look forward to getting to know each of you and helping you as you grow as a reader, a writer, and a thinker.
