Mrs. Melissa Smith

I am a product of the Kershaw County School District! I attended elementary school at Mt. Pisgah. My middle and high school was North Central. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from USC. After graduation, I began teaching second grade at Dutch Fork Elementary in Irmo. I taught there for six years, became a stay at home mom, and returned to Kershaw County to teach fifth grade at the elementary school I attended- Mt. Pisgah! I taught there for two years prior to becoming a second grade teacher at Wateree Elementary in Kershaw County. In 2005, I completed my Masters degree in Instructional Accommodations and earned the honor of being named the Kershaw County Teacher of the Year. In 2007, I earned my National Board Certification. In 2008, I earned my Masters +30 in Elementary Education and the title of Kershaw County School District Reading Teacher of the Year. I have served as the KCSD Teacher Leadership Council chair, the Teacher Forum Chair, and the communication contact person. In 2016, I transitioned out of the classroom and became a Reading Coach and Reading Interventionist at Bethune Elementary.  I am working on my Read to Succeed Endorsement now.  I renewed my National Board Certification in 2016.  I am honored to serve as the Elementary Induction Facilitator for the KCSD and love every minute that I'm able to work with the newest teachers in our profession.  My husband, Craig, is a Camden High School graduate. We have two children. Gunner is a 2015 graduate of LEHS.  He is in the Army and is stationed at Fort Campbell in Kentucky.  Kaitlyn is a student at LEHS where she is a varsity cheerleader.  She is also a competitive cheerleader at Spirit Athletics.   Craig and I trust the Kershaw County School District with our children's futures and you can, too!
