Mr. Larry Watkins

I was born in Camden and  graduated Camden High School in 1972. In high school I took the auto mechanics class to learn how to work on my own car. I went to Palmer College after high school and majored in Criminal Justice because I had planned on going into law enforcement. The summer I graduated high school, I got a job at a local auto parts store and garage. After college, my employer persuaded me to work for him full time. I really enjoyed working in the automotive repair industry and continued working for the same company a total of 21 years.

This year is my 23nd year teaching automotive technology at ATEC. It has been a very rewarding career. I am so glad that I signed up to take the auto mechanics class in high school. I learned the basic skills needed to get a job in the automotive repair business and I continue build upon the skills I learned almost 50 years ago.I am an ASE Master Certified Automotive Technician and I am a member of The North American Council of Automotive Teachers (NACAT).

I have two daughters, Lesli Pate and Lisa Watkins. Lesli is the art teacher at North Central Middle School. Lisa lives in Columbia and is an office manager. My wife Robin and I have been married for 43 years. Robin has been employed by Kershaw County for 42 years. She has been the County Auditor for the past 19 years. We just recently welcomed our first grandchild, a sweet little boy on July 30th.

If I can be of assistance to you or you have any questions about the automotive program at ATEC, please email me or give me a call.
