Greetings! I will be your student’s English teacher this school year at Lugoff-Elgin High School, and I look forward to a terrific upcoming semester.
I am originally from New York and earned my degree in English from North Park University in Chicago. After teaching for three years in South Korea I moved to South Carolina to attend Columbia International University, where I obtained my graduate degree in teaching English and met my wonderful wife Debbie. I also completed my doctorate at USC in Columbia in 2012. I am looking forward to meeting you personally, and I hope you can come for a visit.
My basic expectations for class are that my students are on time (in class prior to the final tardy bell), prepared, and respectful of others. I expect my students to be prepared to learn, in part by bringing their charged computer, homework, pens, pencils, paper and books to class on a daily basis.
Please feel free to contact me at LEHS if I can be of any assistance (direct phone #: 424-2845, ext. 5635; e-mail: john.gustafson@kcsdschools.net). Please also keep up with assignments through the calendar here and through access to your student's grades at home through Parent Portal (contact the front office for a password to Parent Portal; 438-3481. It is well worth it!).
Thank you for entrusting your student to our care. Our goal is to make sure all of our students develop to their fullest potential.
Tutoring times: After school, by appointment please.
