Ms. Cheryl Gil

Bienvenidos a todos!  Welcome everyone!

My name is Cheryl Gil.  I have been teaching Spanish to kindergartners through 8th graders for 12 years.  This year will mark my 10th year here at Lugoff-Elgin Middle School.  I have a master's degree in the teaching of Spanish, and I have traveled to Venezuela, and Mexico.

I was born in Nebraska, and I grew up in Iowa. I have been living in Columbia, SC for over 25 years, and I consider this state my home.  In addition to teaching our students Spanish, I am also one of the assistant volleyball coaches.  I have one dog whose name is Wolfie.  My hobbies include reading, traveling and exercising.

I look forward to a very fun and productive year this year in Spanish class!

Tutoring hours:  Tuesdays from 3:00-4:00.  You can also email me with any questions or need for help, and I will respond even on the weekends.

Senor Wooly is a website with stories and activities that reinforce the vocabulary from the stories.  This is a resource purchased for us by the district.  Students have their own accounts that we set up in the first few weeks of school.

We will also use Canvas this year.  Each grade will have their own classroom!

In addition to the above resources, in 8th grade, we will also use the "Somos" curriculum, which is considered a comprehensible input-based program with stories.
