Mrs. Keyes M. Wheeler

I am history teacher and have worked for Kershaw County School District and LEMS since 1999.  I received my BA and MA from the University of South Carolina and have my National Board Certification in History. I believe strongly that education is the key to a successful future.

  • Students will study our state’s development during colonial times and the growth of the American ideal, which led to the break with England, the rising controversy about slavery, and the Civil War.  The study of the rebuilding of our state after the war and the continuing struggle for civil rights and justice by the people of South Carolina will allow students to see the progress of our state and her people’s contributions to the history of the United States.

South Carolina History is a subject that is intrinsically linked to an appreciation of our state’s cultural diversity and an understanding of how culture influenced the formation of our government, attitudes, behaviors, and interaction with the environment throughout history. It will be both rewarding and exciting. As such, your attendance and daily participation in discussion is critical. Your grades in class will reflect your willingness and desire to learn. Grades are EARNED, not given. All students must turn in assignments on time, and prepare for tests. Everyday attendance and participation will be expected of all students.  Students will be required to take notes, read the required reading, and turn in weekly homework assignments.  Students will need one sturdy notebook with tabs for all of their history work, pencils, and black or blue pens.
