Meet the Teacher
Hello everyone! My name is Cheryl Champagne and I’ve joined the 1st Grade teaching team for this year of 2022-2023 at Midway. It’s such a wonderful privilege to serve the Midway community and I’m so excited to get to know my students and their families.
I’ve earned my Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood Education at USC-Upstate and I have my teaching certification in the state of South Carolina. My teaching goal is for each child in my classroom to feel loved and accepted and to also respect and accept their classmates. I believe children are natural learners and I hope to empower children to be inquisitive, to freely think and discover and to be independent learners. My goal is for each child to discover their own unique gifts & talents. I hope they will understand themselves better as this year progresses and I hope they will become great communicators.
I’ve been teaching children for over fifteen years in various capacities. I’ve taught in other school districts and in Department of Defense (DOD) facilities as well. I’ve served children from many different backgrounds and with many different needs. It’s such a joy to be able to help children blossom and grow.
Some facts about me are that I’ve been married for 36 years, have three grown children of my own, and have returned to my home in Sumter, South Carolina after living in Connecticut for 19 years.
I love reading, art, animals and travel.
