The Fire Service program at ATEC has received a $7,500 grant from the South Carolina State Firefighters Association (SCSFA) for its firefighting program. Shown are J.D. McCarley, Region 2 training coordinator for the S.C. Fire Academy; Scott Wiles, deputy fire marshal for Kershaw County; Chris Tidwell, battalion commander for the Camden Fire Department; Chris Jones, volunteer coordinator for the Lugoff Fire Department; ATEC director Gordon Morris and ATEC firefighting instructor Jeff Cooper.
Thanks to the Mark Mason family who own the Lugoff Automotive Group. They have agreed to provide paid internships for a number of our second and third level automotive technology students who met hiring criteria at the group's local dealerships which include Lugoff Toyota, Lugoff Ford and Carolina Chrysler Dodge. As of now, four students are participating in these paid internships, which include part-time work after school hours and on Saturdays. Congratulations to Trent Johnson and Brandon Harris, who are at Lugoff Ford, Hunter Horton who is at Lugoff Toyota and Vance Outlaw who is at Carolina Chrysler Dodge. We are hopeful that later in the school year additional students will qualify as positions become available. Larry Watkins is the program instructor.
