Course Syllabus 2019-2020
Math - 7th Grade
To prepare students for the seventh grade state-wide assessment and to advance their level of knowledge and skill beyond basic understanding to mathematical concepts.
We will be using the South Carolina College- and Career-Ready Standards for Mathematics.
Each student will receive a textbook assigned to them for the school year and chromebook. They will be responsible for keeping up with the book and chromebook and bringing them to class each day.
Homework will be issued throughout the week. It is to be completed at home and brought in the next day. The purpose of homework is to reinforce classroom activities and lessons. A minor homework grade is given for every 5 assignments based on completion. Your child will start each 5 day period with a 100. Each day an assignment is not completed will result in a 20 point deduction. To be successful in class, complete assignments when given and ask for help when necessary. If an assignment is given out, it will be reviewed and discussed the next day in class. NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED.
Classroom rules and policies will abide by school and district policies mentioned in the student handbook. Main expectations are for students to come to class prepared, respect the belongings of their classmates and others, and participate. If a student fails to follow classroom rules or becomes a disruption, parent contact will be made to address the issue and appropriate school consequences will occur.
The syllabus, quiz/test dates and homework will be posted online! Teacher pages can be accessed via https://www.kcsdschools.net/Page/41. Students need to utilize this resource and take responsibility for checking online. Parents/guardians are encouraged to sign up for updates from our website and to sign up for Parent Portal to monitor student grades and progress. I also use Remind ( via text messages) for upcoming assignments, quizzes, and tests. Students are responsible for writing homework assignments and upcoming quizzes/tests in their agenda before leaving class each day. Many of the lessons taught in class are on the google classroom page for your child to review as well.
All students start with a 100 as a participation grade each 9 weeks. The grade will remain a 100 if students follow classroom rules and meet class expectations.
90 - 100
80 - 89
70 - 79
60 - 69
Per district policy, grades are entered as either major or minor. The distribution is 50/50. Major = 50% and minor = 50% of the overall grade. Major grades will be tests, projects and their participation grade. Minor grades will be quizzes and homework. It will be very important that students keep up with their homework and their studies. There will be at least three major grades and nine minor grades, per district policy, each quarter grade.
