The State Department of Education issued a new Proviso on January 10, 2002 relating to technology and certification. The following points were issued:
Teachers must demonstrate technology proficiency during their next re-certification validity period. They must renew their technology proficiency status during each five-year recertification period.
School Districts will submit an assurance form to the Office of Technology validating the fact that the teacher is proficient in technology prior to the conclusion of his/her validity period.
Teacher technology competency standards (which should be included in and/or tied to district technology plans) must be approved by the Office of Technology as a prerequisite to expenditure of district technology funds. Guidelines will be provided including sample standards/assessment tools, and verification of approval of technology plans and standards via the Department of Education website.
