IMPORTANT TESTING NOTICE - Face to Face Students
Dear Second Grade Families,
All second grade students in South Carolina will participate in CogAT and ITBS testing during the month of October. Kershaw County 2nd grade students will test during the week of October 19th-23rd. The CogAT is a norm-referenced aptitude test, and ITBS is an achievement test. The purpose of testing is to identify students for the gifted and talented program. Our gifted and talented program is called SEAGUL, which begins in the third grade.
It is extremely important that all of our students attend school these days. (Testing starts at 8:00am and will be completed by 11:00am each day.) Please try to schedule all outside appointments after testing. We are mandated by the state to test every second grade child. The results of these tests will help determine your child’s academic path. Please make sure your child is on time and has eaten a good breakfast.
We will adhere to the testing schedule below:

Important School Opening Details
For the time bening, parents will not be able to enter the building due to COVID 19. This is a district-wide procedure that has been implemented for the safety of our students. We are also not allowing anyone to get out of their car. Please stay in the car rider line. We have a Fevver system that will be in place to check our student's temperatures as they enter the building so you will put others at risk if you walk up while our line at the front door is in place. This is for all of our students to get through safely and properly. All students should have a mask on when they get out of the car.
School begins promptly at 7:30 with the car rider line starting at 7:00. Students must be in their seat and ready to learn at 7:30.
Dismissal will normally begin at 2:35 but during the first week of school, we will begin dismissal at 2:15 as we get our students accustomed to the beginning of the school year. We will begin 2:35 dismissal during the second week of school.
Dismissal will end promptly at 3:00.
From the Nurse:
When sending your student to school, please be mindful of the SC DHEC school exclusion list through this link: School and Childcare Exclusion Brochure for Parents. Our School nurses and staff will be following these guidelines closely throughout the school year.
It is imperative that students are well prior to coming to school. It is also important to practice mask wear and social distancing in our community, as well as, at school. This is to ensure the health of our students and faculty.
If your student requires medication at school, the forms needed can be found at Kershaw County School District’s website: Kershaw County School District Nurses. This webpage will inform you of important medication policies. The first day of school I will be in the lobby to accept medications with a doctor's order, thereafter you will need to make an appointment with me to drop off.
If your student or a family member in the same household has a positive COVID-19 test, please contact Robin Mathis,RN at firstname.lastname@example.org or 803-438-3241 with the name of your student, the date of diagnosis, and your testing facility.
