  • Reading Logsreading log

As your children are enjoying their newest toys from the holidays, please take time to ensure they are reading 20 minutes a day.  Your Bullpup receives a reading log to document their reading minutes each week.  These logs are to be turned into their teacher each Monday.  Remember, if you can read you can do anything!  The gift of good reading habits is the richest of all gifts you can give your children!

  • Car Rider Informationcar

Bullpup families we want to remind parents that our car pool lane is open from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM every morning. Students arriving after 7:30 AM need to be signed in through the front office. For the safety of everyone, we ask that you not drop your child at the back door after 7:30 AM. At 7:30 AM, our teachers, safety patrol and administrators need to go inside to prepare for the day; therefore, we do not have supervision for students. At 7:30 AM we lock the doors to ensure our building is secure for the day. Please remember that on rainy days we see an increase in car pool traffic so you may want to come a little earlier than usual. You are welcome to come as early as 7:00 AM.  Afternoon carpool is open from 2:20 PM to 2:50 PM.  Thanks so much for your help and understanding!

  • Parent Portalinternet

Kershaw County School District's Parent Portal is now open for use.  Parents may access existing accounts or see their school to set up and account.  There will also be a mobile option this year.  Parent's can download the Parent Portal app via iPhone/iPad and register with the district code CQQZ.  We are excited about this new feature but would like to remind parents that the district itself does not support the app.  The portal can also be accessed using your mobile browser.  Any questions please feel free to give us a call!

    Dear Friends of PTH,

I am happy to report that your students are learning and growing everyday!  I am always amazed at the great learning transformations that happen each school year.  Please continue to inspire your children to read "Winter According to Humphrey" everyday.  Use the parent guide to help you know what chapter they are supposed to be reading, as well as questions that will help deepen the understanding of the chapter.

I want to address some concerns some of you have expressed to me about the recent tragedy in Florida.  The tragedy that happened in Florida has touched the hearts and minds of everyone in the United States, and I understand your concerns.  I want you to know that the Kershaw County School District, along with the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department, has actively sought safety measures that will ensure the safety of our students.  As part our preparedness, you will continue to conduct drills and we will also have the Kershaw County Sheriff's Department assist us and give us even more preparedness suggestions.  We will conduct a drill on Monday morning with the assistance of our School Resource Office. I have been asked a few questions by parents about our safety.  Although I won't go into great detail about our plan, I can let you know all exterior doors, except the front doors to the main office, stay locked throughout the day.  We have safety doors in the main office for an extra layer of protection. Ms. Jordan, the custodial staff and I check the exterior doors throughout the day to make sure they stay closed and locked. Staff are identified by a staff badge and visitors must go through the front office and be approved to enter the building, as well as they must wear a visitors badge while on campus.  We have plans for evacuation of any emergency no matter where students are located.  Our students take part in fire drills, tornado drills, earthquake drills, and intruder drills.  Our resource officer, Deputy Montjoy, is attentive and helpful in making sure we are as safe as we can be in any situation.

Our children are our most precious resource, and the faculty and staff at PTH are dedicated to ensure everyone's safety.  Please remind your children that if they see something, they need to tell a teacher, Ms. Jordan or me.  We take every threat seriously.

Thank you for all you do to make PTH the best little elementary school in all of South Carolina!

    With Bullpup Pride,

    Mrs. Royalty

Dear Friends of Pine Tree Hill,

It's been another great week of learning and growing at PTH!  I want to thank our teachers for their dedication and I want to thank our students for their perseverance.  It is a winning combination!

Learning to read is the cornerstone for all learning!  For the month of December we want to inspire kids to read so this is what we are going to do...From December 1 -December 15 we will keep track of reading minutes as usual - the top reader (the one with the most reading minutes) in each class will get to silly string Ms. Jordan and meon December 19. We will have a schoolwide assembly at 9 am so all students can see us get silly stringed! :) From December 20 - January 2 students that read a total of240 minutes (20 minutes a day for 12 days) will get a ticket to a grade level dance that will be held on 11 during the related arts time.  Let's get to reading!!

The Christmas season is full of excitement and wonders for our Bullpups! Please plan to join us from 6-7:30 pm on December 14 for our annual Family Fun Night.  We will have a sing along performance from our Bullpups followed by a host of fun family activities!

In the past we have had the "Barkey Santa Shoppe" for students to shop for family and friends.  This year we will have "Winnie's Wonderland" for students to shop for family and friends.  Winnie's Wonderland will open on Monday and will close on December 14 after the Family Fun Night.

As always, Ms. Jordan, Winnie and I are here to support you and your Bullpup.  Please let us know how we can be of assistance.

    Dear Friends of PTH,

We had another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill.  I am so impressed with the level of learning that our Bullpups are practicing!  Our students are growing in leaps and bounds in their knowledge!

This week we finished up the 2nd grade CoGAT and ITBS testing, celebrated our Veterans and we also celebrated Winnie's Birthday! It was a busy week in the halls of PTH!

I want to give a special thanks to our 2nd grade students and teachers for assisting us in celebrating our PUPtastic Veterans!  I also want to thank our music teacher, Mrs. Lawson, for preparing the students for the wonderful Veteran's Day program.  Great job, everyone!

As you probably already know, our Bullpups did a phenomenal job on the SC Ready and SC PASS test last year.  The Bullpups scored as well as, or even better, than the state average on all tests.  Our 4th graders did exceptionally well.  The 4th grade teachers focused on best teaching practices and challenged their students, and it really payed off!  For this reason, I chosen the 4th grade TEAM as our PUPtastic Staff of the week!  Please congratulate Mrs. Gregg, Mrs. Graham, Mrs. Fuller and Ms. Catoe when you see them!  They are four exceptional teachers that are dedicated and hardworking!  I am so proud of these teachers, and the students they serve!

As always Ms. Jordan, Winnie and I are here to support you and your Bullpup.  Please let us know how we may of assistance!

    Dear Bullpup Families,

It has been another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill!  Mrs. Royalty, the teachers, and I would like to thank of all of the parents who joined us on your student’s awards day.  It was an honor to celebrate your child’s first nine weeks accomplishments. As we venture into the second nine weeks, please remember that it is important that students have set goals and are working towards meeting these goals.

One way to help your child work on meeting their goals is to make sure that he/she is reading 20 minutes a day.  Reading to and with your child is the number one activity you can do to assist your child in growing academically.  It is important that you log the 20 minutes on the reading log too!  We count the minutes our Bullpups read, and we reward them for committing to the reading challenge.  Please help us by completing the log daily.

Another way to help your child work on meeting their goals for the second nine weeks is to work on their Math facts.  Students need to know their math facts in order to help them build a strong foundation in math.  Students in grades K-2 should be able to recognize their numbers and add/subtract.  Students in 3rd through 5th grades should be fluent with their multiplication facts.

I want to remind you that attendance matters to your child's academic success!  It is difficult for your child to learn all the standards they must learn if they are not at school for a full day.  Tardies to school and early dismissals affect students' academic performance in a negative way.  I ask that you ensure your Bullpup is at school every day, all day, that they are healthy.

This last week our second grade students completed the CogAT/Iowa test.  All second graders in the state of South Carolina take this test.  The purpose of this test is to identify students for the gifted and talented program.  Mrs. Royalty and I would like to give a shout out to our second grade students for working really hard on this test.

We have a few items coming up that I want to let you know about.  During the month of November, we will be doing a Krispy Kreme Fundraiser.  Students can sale Krispy Kreme doughnuts and/or Krispy Kreme Certificates to help us raise money for our school.  All doughnut and/or certificate orders along with the money are due by Thursday, November 16th.  The doughnuts and certificates will be available for pick-up on Monday, November 20th from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.

We will also have a LuLaRoe fundraiser on November 17.  Becca Sparks will set up her shop in room 25 for a full day.  LuLaRoe is famous for their incredibly soft leggings and tunics and their stylish leggings.  Please tell your neighbors and friends that we welcome everyone to visit our LuLaRoe fundraiser!

Please plan to join us for our 2nd grade Veteran's Day program on November 10 at 1 pm in the PTH Multi-purpose room.  The 2nd grade classes and teachers have worked hard on this program to show their thanks to our heroes of our great Nation.

As always, Winnie, Mrs. Royalty and I are here to support you and your Bullpup.  Please let us know how we can assist.

    With Bullpup Pride,

    Ms. Jordan, Assistant Principal

It has been another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill!  As we bring the first nine weeks to a close, I want to remind you that it is vitally important that your child read 20 minutes a day.  Reading to and with your child is the number one activity you can do to assist your child in growing academically.  It is important that you log the 20 minutes on the reading log too!  We count the minutes our Bullpups read, and we reward them for committing to the reading challenge.  Please help us by completing the log daily.

Dear Friends of Pine Tree Hill,

It was another great week of learning and growing at PTH!  I want to thank all the parents that took time out of their day/evening to meet with our teachers.  It is so important to have open lines of communication between home and school.

The first 9 weeks is officially over.  Your child will receive their report card on Thursday, October 26.  Please take a moment to sit down with your child and go over their grades.  Help them to set goals for the 2nd 9 weeks.  Help them to make a plan to reach the goals. The process of setting goals allows students to choose where they want to go in school and what they want to achieve. By knowing what they want to achieve, they know what they have to concentrate on and improve. Goal setting gives students long-term vision and short-term motivation.

I want to thank everyone that participated in our PTO fundraiser!  We are thankful for such a wonderful and giving community.

Don't forget that Oct 19 and Oct 22 are student holidays.  We will see everyone on Oct 23!

As always, Winnie, Ms. Jordan and I are here to support you and your child.  Let us know how we may be of assistance.

Dear Friends of Pine Tree Hill,

It was another great week of learning and growing at PTH!  I want to thank everyone that came out to support the Fall Festival.  It was really nice to see so many families to support our school, and enjoy an evening of family fun!

I can hardly believe that the first 9 weeks ends next week on the on the 19th of October.  Our Bullpups have worked hard this quarter, and they have learned so much!  Teachers will conduct parent/teacher conferences on Thursday evening and Friday morning (Oct 19 and 20).  There will be no school on October 20 so we can host the conferences.  We will also not have school on October 23 as it is a professional development day.  Our teachers will learn more about best practices in reading instruction, Kagan strategies and Action Based Learning.

I am so proud of the Bullpups that dedicate themselves to 20 minutes of reading a day.  The reading minutes are starting to grow, and we are seeing great growth too!  Please encourage your child to practice their reading at home daily.  It is the #1 activity that assists students in growing academically!

As always, Ms. Jordan, Winnie and I are here to support your Bullpup.  Let us know how we may be of assistance!
