Mrs. Mary Anne Byrd

With over 25 years of experience, Mary Anne Byrd has served as the KCSD Communications Director since December of 2005. She previously served in similar roles for the Darlington County School District and the SC State Department of Education (SCDE).  While at SCDE, Mrs. Byrd developed and coordinated the Red Carpet Schools program, an initiative to recognize family-friendly schools.  The program was named the Distinguished Single Project Award by the National School Public Relations Association, the only time a South Carolina program has ever received the honor.

Mrs. Byrd enjoys spending time with her family including her husband Howard and sons Braxton and Heath who are students at Winthrop University and daughter Allie, a Lugoff-Elgin High School student.

She is a two-time past president of the SC chapter of the National School Public Relations Association (SC/NSPRA).  The KCSD communications department has won multiple awards for excellence in communications from SC/NSPRA including the organization’s prestigious Medallion Award.

I have been with the Kershaw County School District since 1998.  I am the Coordinator for Web and Multimedia, and my responsibilities include coordinating the district & school websites, developmenting web and multimedia, managing social media, coordinating school libraries and managing online resources including TeachingBooks.net, Soundzabound, Movie Licensing USA, and others.

Previously, I worked for Satellite Education Resources Consortium (SERC) as an Instructional Coordinator for 5 years assisting with the development and production of high school courses and professional development that was distributed nationwide. My central project was the "Math in the Middle..." series, which was developed from a National Science Foundation grant.
