Important Information about Winter Menu Changes

  • When KCSD students return to school on January 3, they will be greeted with new winter menus. While many of the favorites will return, we have added some new products including many that kids have asked for and sampled in our district throughout the year. These “kid tested and approved” additions include grilled cheese and soup, the popular Prime Time chicken sandwich, turkey pot roast, breaded pork chops and fish sticks with mac and cheese. We are also excited for students to try our Fruit Pearls—a frozen fruity desert. In addition to these new hot menu items, we are changing up our fresh express. We have revamped our salads and added a chicken wrap and a fruit bowl selection.

PB Cup & Pretzel Beginning February 1, we will introduce peanut butter cups with our fruit bowls districtwide. (Beginning, February 1, we will introduce peanut butter cups with our fruit bowls in our fresh express menu.) These peanut butter cups are pre-packaged and sealed. We will continue to take precautions for our students who have peanut allergies but we have successfully piloted the addition of peanut butter cups and sandwiches into six schools* already this year. Those six schools will continue to make those menu options available while the remaining schools will offer peanut butter cups on alternating Tuesdays. Students who have identified peanut allergies will be offered yogurt or cheese sticks in the place of the peanut butter cup with the fruit bowl meal.

    Six Pilot Schools:

    • Bethune Elementary
    • Camden High School
    • Dobys Mill Elementary
    • Lugoff Elgin High School
    • Mt. Pisgah Elementary
    • Stover Middle School

If you have any questions about these changes, please contact your child’s cafeteria manager. We look forward to continuing to provide healthy and nutritious meals for your students in the new year!
