  • Car Rider Informationcar

Bullpup families we want to remind parents that our car pool lane is open from 7:00 AM to 7:30 AM every morning. Students arriving after 7:30 AM need to be signed in through the front office. For the safety of everyone, we ask that you not drop your child at the back door after 7:30 AM. At 7:30 AM, our teachers, safety patrol and administrators need to go inside to prepare for the day; therefore, we do not have supervision for students. At 7:30 AM we lock the doors to ensure our building is secure for the day. Please remember that on rainy days we see an increase in car pool traffic so you may want to come a little earlier than usual. You are welcome to come as early as 7:00 AM.  Afternoon carpool is open from 2:20 PM to 2:50 PM.  Thanks so much for your help and understanding!

    Dear Friends of PTH,

We had another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill!  As you know, we have a reading campaign at PTH.  Please take the reading pledge and read at least 20 minutes a night with or to your child.  We are trying to build reading stamina with our students. Read a variety of material during your reading time at home.

The Science of Learning states 3 reasons you should read to your children.

    • Reading exposes your child to rich language and diverse content.  Book language uses a larger vocabulary and more complex grammatical structures than the short, one-way communication we tend to use in feeding and caring for our children.
    • Reading with your children helps prepare their minds to succeed in school.  The benefits of shared reading know no age limits.  Hearing words in terms of syllables, consonants and vowels encourages phoneme awareness, which is the first step towards reading phonetically.  Nursery rhymes and songs leap from the page when parents remember them from their own childhood and make them a part of family life.
    • Reading with your child can enrich family ties and intimacy.  Its virtues are strongest when parents read ‘dialogically’ by taking the book as an opportunity to enjoy a conversation.  Reading together is family time; it is fun time, cuddle time, a time to share your passions, perspective, and your values but also a time to listen. It creates a time for children to express themselves as well as an opportunity for parents to show their willingness to listen. When we build a conversation around a book we encourage our children to communicate with us.

We hope you and your family plan to join us on Thursday night for our annual Spaghetti Dinner/Reading Night.  We will begin our evening with a dinner at 5:30 p.m., our students will perform at 6:00 p.m. and there will be reading activities throughout the building for the whole family.

    With Bullpup Pride,
    Mrs. Melissa Royalty, Principal

    Dear Friends of PTH,

It's been another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill.  Mr. Bringer and I are very pleased with the growth we see in our students.  As we approach Spring Break, we need your help.  Spring fever is alive and present in the classrooms and hallways of Pine Tree Hill!  Please have a conversation with your Bullpup about the importance of staying focused throughout the school day.  We will do our best not give too much homework so students will have plenty of time to play outside after school!  Thank you for your help in keeping our Bullpups focused.

Please take the reading pledge and read at least 20 minutes a night.  Remember there are lots of prizes for the classes that read the most.  We have individual goals, class goals and school goals.  By reading 20 minutes a night, you not only help your child become a better reader, you are helping them win all kinds of prizes!  I know all students want to win that pizza party with Winnie!  Make sure you mark your calendar to attend the spaghetti/reading night on March 24 at 6 pm.  We have something for everyone!

Thank you for all your love and support this week. I truly know the principal of the year award is a TEAM award! I am so blessed to work with such wonderful teachers, parents and especially children. Thank you for entrusting us to teach your children.

As always, Mr. Bringer, Winnie and I are here to support you and your Bullpup!  Let us know how we may be of help.

    With Bullpup Pride,

    Dear Friends of PTH,

It’s been another week of growing and learning at PTH!  We were very excited to have the Google Expedition experience for all of our 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th students.  The “In school around the world”, field trip was amazing!  Please ask your child to tell you all about their experience!

As you know, we are on a quest to be the best reading school in all of SC!  To meet our goal, we need your help!  Please take the pledge to read with your child at least 20 minutes a night.   Reading to and with your child will assist them in growing their vocabulary, reading fluency and decoding skills.  To help inspire our children to read, we are tallying the reading minutes for each class and the class with the most reading minutes will win a pizza party with Winnie the Bullpup!  We are also opening a second hand library for our students that we will call the Pup Box!  Students can visit the Pup Box any time that it is acceptable to their teacher.  The check-outs will be on the honor system.  The Pup Box will be open throughout the summer for students!  If you have books at home that you can donate to the Pup Box, please send them to school with your child or drop them off in the main office.  We hope to have something for everyone...to include mom and dad.

Thank you for all you do to make PTH the best school in all of SC!  As always, Mr. Bringer, Winnie, and I are here to support you and your child.  Please let us know how we may be assistance.

    With Bullpup Pride,

    Dear Friends of PTH,

We had another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill!  Earlier in the week we had visitors from a school in Monroe, NC to see 21st Century Learning at it’s finest.  They were most impressed with the level of learning that was taking place in all classrooms.  After the visit they emailed to let us know they will start making the transformation to deskless classrooms that utilize technology to enhance the learning.  Pine Tree Hill is leading the way in innovative learning!  A special thanks to Mrs. Holder and Mrs. Gardner for hosting our visitors.

I want to thank everyone that came out to support our Read Across America celebration today.  We had lots of readers from Camden High School, parents of our students, and friends throughout our community that volunteered to make this day of reading fun for our Bullpups!  Thank you to everyone that helped in making today great!  A special thanks to Mrs. Ussery and Mrs. Smith for leading the way in today’s festivities.

We are coming to a close with our Math Bowl Competition.  I am impressed with our students’ ability to think through the math challenges that were posed.  I am also impressed with their perseverance as they had to work and rework the problems until they found the answers.  Great job, Bullpups!  We are certainly growing Mathematicians at PTH!  A special thanks to Mrs. Tobens for leading the way in our Math Bowl!

As always, Winnie, Mr. Bringer and I are here to support you and your children.  Please let us know how we may assist you.

We have had another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill!  Thank you for assisting us in being the best Elementary School in SC!

I want to thank everyone that came out to the Kinderpup Roundup on Thursday.  We were so excited to meet the next generation of Kinderpups!  Please help us by spreading the word to your friends, family and neighbors that all students that want to attend 4K or 5K need to register early.  We want to make sure we have the correct number of teachers for our new Kinderpups!

We had a great time at the Wax Museum on Thursday evening.  Thank you to everyone that came out to support our Bullpups.

Our wonderful PTO is sponsoring a tumbler cup sale.  I ask that you seriously consider supporting this fundraiser.  Our PTO puts every penny raised back into the classroom.  The money raised will be used to purchase more 21st Century furniture!  Please visit www.goalbuster.com to see all the tumbler styles that are available.

The Bullpups will celebrate Read Across America Day on Friday, February 26.  We would love to have parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles read to a class.  If you would like to assist us in our Read Across America fun day, please contact our librarian, Tara Ussery at 803-425-8970, extension 7605 or at tara.ussery@kcsdschools.net.  Remember, reading is FUNdamental to our Bullpups’ academic success!

    Dear Friends of PTH,

It has been another wonderful week of learning and growing at our sweet school!  I have been very impressed with the level of learning that is happening through the Math Bowl competition!  Our Bullpups are becoming super mathematicians!  Please continue to encourage your child to work on solutions for the Math Bowl challenges...it’s hard work, and it is definitely helping our Bullpups grow in their math skills!

Next week we will host our Kinderpup Round up!  Please come to our Round Up on Thursday, February 18, if you have a child that will turn 5 before September 1.  It is vital that we get our Kinderpups registered early so we can make sure we have the correct number of teachers.  Please help me spread the word to all your family and friends!

Mark your calendar for the Annual Wax Museum exhibition that will be held on Thursday, February 18 at 6 pm.  Our Bullpups will amaze and dazzle you as they become famous wax figures of history!

Reading is FUNdamental to your child’s academic success!  Please dedicate at least 20 minutes a night to reading.  You can have your child read to you, you read to your child, or a combination of both!  Reading daily is the most effective academic support you offer to your child!

    Dear Friends of PTH,

It’s been another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill!  I want to congratulate all the mathematicians that are competing and winning the math bowl challenge!  I strongly suggest that every Bullpup take part in the challenge!  It’s great practice in stretching your math brain!

We are working to prepare our students for the SC Ready Test.  Next week our 2nd-5th grade Bullpups will be taking an SC Ready “like” writing assessment.  The writing assessment will help us determine what we need to teach to assist our Bullpups in being ready for the BIG test in April.  Based on the assessment outcomes, we will be sending home activities for students to work on to help strengthen their reading and writing skills.

Kinderpup registration will be held on February 18.  Please let anyone with a rising Kindergartener know that is very important to pre-register.  Pre-registry assists us in making sure we have the correct number of teachers for next year.  Any child that will turn five before September 1, 2016 is eligible to enroll in Kindergarten for the 2016-2017 school year.  Students that turn four before September 1, 2016 are eligible to enroll and possibly be accepted in our 4K program for the 2016-2017 school year.  To make it easier, we have put the pre-registration on our website.  Please visit the Kindergarten Roundup page at www.kcsdschools.net/roundup.  We are so excited to meet our newest Kinderpups!  Help me to spread the word to your family, friends and neighbors!

As always, Mr. Bringer, Winnie and I are here to assist you and your child.  Please let us know how we may be of assistance.

    Dear Friends of PTH,

We had another great week of learning and growing at Pine Tree Hill!  I want to recognize our Math Bowl winners.  Join me in congratulating Yana Houston, Gage Huckabee, Florence Nelson, Kayla King, Hannah Patterson and Laci Brewer.  Way to go, Bullpups!

I want to thank everyone that came out to our Curriculum/Parent Night on Thursday.  I am really excited about our parents and teachers working together to meet the academic needs of our students!  I also want to thank our teachers for putting together great information for parents.  A big THANK YOU to our wonderful PTO for the donation of the three Kindle Fires that were given away as door prizes!

Our calendar committee is busy working on the PTH events for next school year.  If you have an idea of an event you would like to see PTH sponsor, please email or call me to let me know.  I will be happy to submit your ideas to our committee!  (melissa.royalty@kcsdschools.net or 803-425-8970, extension 7602).

    Dear Friends of PTH,

It was another great week of learning at growing at Pine Tree Hill!  I want thank everyone that came out to support our talent show last week. We had over 200 guests!  Way to go Bullpups!  I was very proud of the great talent that was showcased.

We had a short week so we could observe Martin Luther King Day.  We all know about Dr. King’s message, his accomplishments as well about as his assassination, but did you know that he was the only US Citizen who never held political office to have a national holiday named after him? That is a little known fact!

Winter has surely arrived in Camden!  Please let us know if you need assistance in getting winter coats, hats or gloves for your children.  Please call Nurse Baytes or Counselor Deas if you need assistance.  (803-425-8970) We go outside for recess until the temperatures reach 40 degrees.  We have inside recess if the temperatures are 39 degrees or lower.

This time of year we have lots of germs going around.  Please help us all stay healthy by taking a few things into consideration.  Teach your child(ren) to wash their hands frequently, cover their cough with their elbow area, use tissue when sneezing, and keeping their hands away from their faces, mouths and eyes.  Children with fevers should take a sick day from school.  A child must be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.  I hope all our Bullpups have a sick-free winter season!

Please join us on January 28 at 6:00 pm for our family curriculum night.  We will be covering some great information about standards, rigor and how to help your child be academically successful!  Reading to and with your child is the single most important thing you can do to increase your child’s academics performance.  Please carve out 20 minutes an evening for reading!

As always, Mr. Bringer, Winnie and I are here to support you and your child(ren).  Please let us know how we may be of assistance!

    Dear Friends of PTH,

We had another great week of learning and growing!  The Bullpups have been busy getting prepared for the Math Bowl competition that will begin next week.  They have also been logging their hours for the Reading With Cocky program we are sponsoring.  Both of these programs will assist your child in being a successful student!

I want to congratulate the Bullpup Quiz Bowl TEAM for their hard work in preparing for the 1st Annual Kershaw County Elementary Quiz Bowl.  Our students made me proud!  We have some really smart students!  Way to go, Bullpups!

I was amazed at the wonderful talent that was showcased at our talent show on Thursday night.

Most Americans set New Year Resolutions at the beginning of a new calendar year.  Please talk to your child and see what resolutions they have made to ensure they are learning.
